Brahman Judging Workshop

Anyone can "breed cattle" on paper or by EPDs, but it takes a truly great breeder to be able to successfully evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of Brahman cattle. In this hands on workshop, we will discuss the physical conformational traits that are important for Brahman breed character, and basic beef functionality.

Taught by Keaton Dodd, BRC director of genetics and former livestock judging team coach at Texas A&M University. Input from Brandon and Rachel Cutrer, both experienced judges and breeders of Brahman cattle.  

This is a hands on, detailed workshop that will teach you all about judging Brahman cattle. The workshop will be held at The Ranch Downtown, BRC's venue in Wharton, Texas. We will start in the classroom reviewing cattle conformation, structure, and visual indicators. 

Then, we will travel to BRC Ranch where you'll see first hand examples of great Brahman cattle, and ones that need improvement. We'll show you how to learn to visually evaluate cattle for true quality, future fertility, longevity, and more.

- Learning Brahman breed character differences and terminology
-Distinguishing muscle from fat and other tricky visual indicators
- Learning how to identify hormonally correct visual cues for masculinity and femininity and their effect on long term reproduction and fertility

This workshop is not necessarily designed for those wishing to be a cattle judge. It is designed for breeders and individuals who wish to sharpen their skills. Students are also welcome. We will not be discussing anything about giving reasons. It is solely a visual evaluation workshop.
